Transportation In Rio
Like many other major cities in the world, transportation is an important structure in Rio. However, pollution and have become such problems in the city that traveling around in a personal motorized vehicle does not cut it anymore. in the 1980's emission began to build up and now it is at the point where the government of the city is encouraging citizens to take public transportation more often than their own vehicle to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Another way that transportation is being improved is by bike routes and rental are being implemented in to the structure of the city. Instead of taking a car to their destination, citizens will often rent a bike to ride to their destination, so that they can avoid traffic. In the city bus systems are also improving. A lot of people in the city choose to take the bus instead of their own car because it is more efficient and runs over long distances which helps commuters. Finally, high speed railways for commuters are also being built to reduce traffic as well as pollution. All of these transport systems are becoming more popular than cars and will soon surpass them in terms of use among the population, but for now cars remain the number one type of transportation. There is one major airport in Rio called Galeao International Airport. This airport is bustling and has many departures and arrivals coming in and out of it everyday. The port of Rio de Janeiro not only is involved in the movement of goods and services, but also functions as a place for travelers to come into and leave the city by sea. There is also a national railway system that carries people in and out of the city to various places spread around Brazil.
