Historically Rio de Janeiro was a huge manufacturing city as the city was able to cheaply export the products that they manufactured since the biggest port in the country is in Rio. The city had many huge plants that produced on making ships, apparel and footwear, textiles, nonmetallic mineral products, food and beverages, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. The iron mining industry also is a huge commodity, as there are many areas outside the city that are rich in the metal. This made Rio de Janeiro a perfect place for settlers to colonize since colonists can prosper off the trade of iron. The manufacturing of technology has also come into fruition as the country has developed more and more over time. This sector includes the making of computers, television, among many other enterprising technological goods.
