Enviromental Challenges
The main environmental challenge that Rio faces is the amount of greenhouse gasses they emit into the atmosphere. These gasses often come from motorized vehicles and the amount of gas emitted from industrial work. Due to the fact that Rio is still urbanizing and developing, this problem is only going to get worse. Right now, Rio still has a lot of factories that emit harmful gasses into the atmosphere. This rate of emission is only going to pick up as Rio continues to develop and uses industry as its main source of revenue. This will eventually cause a lot of damage to the environment as the world heats up due to climate change from these emissions. Another challenge that Rio faces with its environment is the pollution inside its water. Citizens used to pride themselves on their pristine beaches, but since the 1980's these beaches have become dirtied. The tap water in the city has been deemed not safe to drink, but environmental services since factories dump their waster in the water as well as the high levels of litter in the water. This problem has gotten so bad, that for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio, waterspouts will have to be moved to a location where the water is cleaner according to Olympic Committee.
