Rio is one of the premier tourist locations in the world with its miles of beautiful beaches among other physical features including Mt. Corcovado. This attracts many people to come to the city making jobs in tourism one of the biggest employers.
In Greater Rio there are a lot of people that work in the real estate business. Many of the main real estate agencies are located in the center of the city, but agencies are scattered all around the city. Real Estate trade is a huge commodity that brings in huge amounts of revenue for the city's economy.
Due to the fact that Rio de Janeiro was once the nation's capital, many headquarters of businesses, whether they are national, multinational, or private, are located there to this day. Some of these companies include, Petrobas, the state oil company, the National Economic and Social Development bank, a federal investment bank.
Rio is also an important financial center with the second most volume of financial business with Sao Paulo being the first.
Due to the proximity to ports, Rio also has the most companies headquartered their that deal with imports and exports.
